Solo Exhibition
REC point

Featured Exhibition

October 1 – October 31, 2024

At Anicoremix Gallery Online, we will hold the online solo feature exhibition “REC Point” by Japanese painter Erika Nakanishi from October 1 to October 31, 2024.

“REC Point” refers to the moment of recording, capturing the present point in time for Nakanishi, depicting the situation of that moment and place. It is like recording a story or scene, similar to a picture scroll.

Furthermore, this exhibition consists of 20 ambitious works in which Nakanishi challenges a new style and series in Japanese painting. Nakanishi is strongly attracted to things that once existed but are now lost or rarely seen, evoking a feeling close to nostalgia, which influences her creative process in various ways. In this online solo exhibition, she is also presenting new works depicting rare animals. Through works where the past and present intersect, we hope to discover and explore new perspectives on Japanese aesthetics and past landscapes, as well as the emotions they evoke in us today.

REC Point

In my own work, I place great importance on the traditional Japanese aesthetic concepts of “ma” (space or interval) and “kanjiru” (to perceive or feel), striving to create expressions that evoke various interpretations and emotions in the viewer. This form of expression originates from the unique Japanese tradition of depicting intangible deities, as seen in the late Kamakura period picture scroll “Kasuga Gongen Genki E-maki.”

“Ma” refers to the deliberate use of space or blank areas to provoke diverse interpretations and emotions in the viewer. The method of depicting deities with hidden faces reflects the Japanese concept of “ma” and is a crucial element that also resonates in my work.
