Featured Exhibition

September 16 – October 15,2024

Anicoremix Gallery Online will hold an online solo exhibition “second home” by the contemporary artist neko from September 16 to October 15.

In addition to creating her own works, neko is also involved in exhibition planning and curation. The recently held “Ball,” near Tokyo, received high praise. Just before that event, she agreed to participate in this exhibition, and despite her busy schedule, she has prepared 31 works for this occasion. Not only are her exhibition projects unique, but her works, especially digital pieces, have long had a large following. The digital works she has recently created are of even higher quality than before.

Characters, as images, do not appear in photographs. However, they have partially materialized, from being mediums in the past to digital media in the present.

VR, AI, NFT
The ecosystem residing in data has drawn diverse contours as a species and contributed to the development of subculture.

On the other hand, printing technology significantly expands the support medium as a concept in art. The flat texture of mass-produced items has stirred a strong yearning for original works and materials. However, images not bound by a medium do not rely on a single support as content. In fact, CG media, which deals with images liberated from materiality, have nurtured many internet artists.

In the early 2010s, characters met with mediums once again through Chaos Lounge and became unique artistic pieces. However, these multi-dimensional, fluctuating beings do not necessarily seek a permanent support medium.

As a quantum entity, the character archives the potential to behave like a wave with overlapping states and holds a solo exhibition in electronic space.

VR、AI、NFT

The fundamental motivation for the act of drawing lies beyond the surface of the painting.
It is the depiction of something that cannot be fully revealed by three-dimensional physics.
An image is nothing more than a visual perception.
It is a tool for capturing a body that trembles and breathes.

“It is said that lonely people create imaginary friends.”
It is often said, but if one lives alone for years in an isolated place like a deserted island, that alone would not suffice.
Even in today’s bustling society, each person fundamentally carries an inescapable loneliness.
Quality is about not turning a blind eye to this reality.

A lover, a fiancé, an essential other.
Someone you have vowed to devote yourself to.
Though paths, definitions, and motifs may differ, for those who continue to paint until they die, such a bond may be considered a contract with the subject.
Not just in painting, but all passionate and beautiful acts occur between a curse and a blessing.

The more you face it,
the more the creation becomes independent of the creator’s conscious intentions.
And yet, you remain committed to walking alongside it.

This exhibition is held through digital media, which is organized into grids by numbers.
It reflects the web and CG representations that neko has been involved with since childhood.
How much living reality has been cultivated in the rigid and efficient virtual venue?
I would be happy if you could take a peek at the RGB playfulness, which is gradually acquiring a new realm, alongside the objects of my affection.

Late 2000s
Debuted in the art world as a founding member of the predecessor to Chaos Lounge, “Post Poppers.”
However, left the group in its early stages.
Subsequently disappeared from the offline art scene for about ten years.

Then in 2020
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, returned to the art world with the support of art collector Motohashi Iijima.
In 2021, organized the group exhibition “Otomarikai” (The Sleepover) to explore and propose new directions for the character art context he was involved in, diving into Japanese contemporary art to uncover broad and exciting territories.
After participating in several domestic and international exhibitions, conceived and organized the follow-up project “Butoukai” (The Ball) in 2024.
“Butoukai” brought together important artists from different generations within the character art scene post-Chaos Lounge, marking the highest attendance and sales among recent exhibitions focused on this context.
